This work is obviously the artist's expression of self confidence.

Coats of primer
(a material meant to hide past markings and mistakes)
lie like layers of thin veneer,
trying desperately
(in vain)
to cover the
deep,
rich
colors
of a painting that is now too bold
and loud
to any longer stand
in the limelight
of a stark studio space.

The primer was applied hurriedly,
either forced
due to limited time constraints
or due to the artist's own fear
that anyone else
be allowed to gander a guess
at the meaning
behind the original message.

With
quick,
sloppy
strokes
the primer was rolled on
in an attempt at uniformity...

perhaps no one will notice what once stood here
if it appears the same
blah white
as the rest of the room?

Perhaps it could be seen as
crisp,
cut,
blank
and MODERN
as the rest of the walls
if it can only be
painted over?

But the artist
has limited supplies
and even more limited confidence
in their abilities to change
from who they used to be,
from what still stands there,
despite the primer's
cheap
efforts.

Instead of appearing as
adaptable,
strong
and contemporary
as it's surroundings,
the painting beneath
stands
like an awkward teenager
at his first Halloween party
where alcohol is freely served,
trying not to move
too much in any direction,
less the
bargain-bought
toilet paper
costume
rip
and fall to pieces,
exposing the
under confident
and untried
youth underneath,
swaying in a crowd
of professionally made vampire dukes and duchesses,
pina colada sipping werewolves
and pretentious art professors.
*Pfft*- sorry, this is supposed to be *teehee* serious business. BECAUSE ART IS SERIOUS BUSINESS GUIZE.

Anywho, my friend posted a picture of a painting she had done, for a studio space, painted over with one layer of primer, claiming more layers where to come as the art show had ended a few days before.

She then made the mistake of offering baked goods to the most compelling read on the piece.
Boo ya, you been art student'd.
